Australian Native WildlifeKoala Reserve - Our local koala's are frequently observed in the 'Koala Reserve' on the corner of Ibis & Kingfisher Ave, Hawks Nest as well as many other locations in Hawks Nest. Kangaroos - Kangaroos can be spotted in many locations at dusk. Ask us for more information. Dingos - Often spotted in Tea Gardens & Hawks Nest. It is special to see them in their natural environment but they should not be fed. Birdlife - An abundance of birdlife can be seen on the waterways and on land. More information can be obtained from the visitor information centre. Dolphins - Can often be seen in the Myall River, Port Stephens as well as catching a wave at the beach. 4WDrivingA beach permit is required to drive on Bennets Beach. Information, maps and permits are available from Tea Gardens Council Office or Visitor Information Centre. Water ActivitiesWith such a variety of waterways, the area is great for exploring by canoe or kayak and runabout trailer boat. The Myall River meanders for 20km past fishermen's huts, prawn shots and rainforest to the quaint fishing village of Tamboi, before reaching the Myall Lakes system. There are good fishing and picnic spots along the way. The northern shore of Port Stephens has a multitude of beaches, bays and inlets to explore as well as some great fishing spots. SnorkellingJimmys Beach, Barnes Rock, the lower Myall River and Little Gibber are great for snorkelling. Art & CraftLocally produced art and craft is for sale at various outlets including our Art & Craft Centre, near the Singing Bridge. Art Exhibitions are held at the Art & Craft Centre in January and October, at the Tea Gardens Public School Art Expo during Easter, at the 'Walk on the Wild Side' Festival in September and at the Myall River Festival in October. Walking and BushwalkingThe Myall Coast is ideal for walkers of all ages and abilities, from strolling along the waterfront to climbing Yacaaba Headland.
